Things We’re Throwing Out from 2024 and What We’re Bringing In for 2025

As we move into the new year, there’s always a lot of talk about setting resolutions, embracing the "New Year, New You" mentality, and committing to a fresh start. But what if I told you that this year, we’re doing things a little differently?

At TEMPLE Wellness and Yoga, we believe wellness isn’t about quick fixes, restrictive diets, or changing who you are to meet some ideal. Instead, we’re focused on cultivating sustainable, lasting practices that honour our bodies and minds. As we step into 2025, we’re saying goodbye to some of the habits that don’t serve us — and welcoming in a new way of thinking about wellness, one that’s rooted in authenticity, vitality, and embodiment.

So, what are we throwing out — and more importantly, what are we bringing in?

Throwing Out: The “New Year, New You” Mindset

For far too long, we’ve been sold the idea that each year, we need to reinvent ourselves, as if who we are right now isn’t enough. The “New Year, New You” mentality promotes a narrative that we should discard the old and create a new version of ourselves. But here’s the truth: we don’t need to change who we are.

Instead of focusing on an unrealistic, idealised version of “the perfect you,” we’re choosing to embrace the beauty of who we already are. This year, we’re leaving behind the need to be someone else and bringing in a mindset that says, "You are already whole."

Bringing In: Mindful Movement

Instead of hopping from trend to trend or pushing ourselves to fit into an idealised box, we’re choosing to practice mindful movement. Yoga, Pilates, breathwork, and meditation are all about creating space for our bodies to move in a way that feels good, not just looks good. These practices help us connect deeply with ourselves — our breath, our body, and our hearts.

Mindful movement is a more intentional approach to exercise. It’s about noticing how your body feels, how your breath flows, and being fully present in the moment. It doesn’t matter if your pose isn’t "Instagram-perfect" or if your Pilates form isn’t what you see in fitness magazines. What matters is that you’re listening to your body and moving in a way that supports your long-term health and well-being.

At TEMPLE, we believe that yoga and Pilates are not just workouts — they’re invitations to be present, to be kind to ourselves, and to cultivate vitality in every movement. Whether you’re deepening your practice with a challenging yoga flow or engaging in a grounding Pilates session, the goal is to feel alive, vibrant, and connected, not exhausted or depleted.

Throwing Out: Quick-Fix Diets and Temporary Goals

Another habit we’re leaving behind in 2024? The obsession with quick-fix diets and weight-loss fads. From detox teas to restrictive meal plans, we’ve all been there — buying into the promises of quick results that ultimately don’t last. These “solutions” aren’t built on real, lasting wellness; they’re built on fleeting goals and external standards that often leave us feeling defeated.

This year, we’re taking a step back from diet culture. We’re choosing to nourish our bodies with the intention of feeling good, not punishing ourselves with restrictive rules. It's about self-compassion — knowing that health is a long-term, holistic journey and that nourishing our bodies with wholesome food and movement is an act of love, not deprivation.

Bringing In: Sustainable Wellness Practices

Instead of focusing on quick fixes, we’re bringing in sustainable wellness practices. Yoga, Pilates, and meditation are not short-term trends; they are ways of being that support long-term health.

When we choose to practice yoga or Pilates, we’re not just working towards a specific goal (like a six-pack or a certain number of calories burned). We’re building strength, flexibility, and resilience in both our bodies and minds. Breathwork and meditation further enhance this by helping us cultivate a deep sense of inner peace and awareness.

These practices are accessible at every stage of life, for every body. They support mental, physical, and emotional wellness, all while fostering a sense of spaciousness and joy — both on and off the mat.

Throwing Out: The Pressure to Be Perfect

In a world that constantly tells us to be better, faster, and more "perfect," it’s easy to feel like we’re not enough. Social media only adds to this pressure, showing highlight reels of perfect lives and “perfect” bodies that often leave us feeling inadequate.

Whether it’s a strict exercise regimen or a restrictive eating plan, the idea that you must do it perfectly is unrealistic and discouraging.

The pressure to commit 100% can often result in burnout, frustration, or even giving up altogether after a minor slip-up. That’s not how wellness works.

But this year, we’re choosing to let go of perfection. We’re throwing out the need to compare ourselves to others or strive for an unrealistic version of ourselves.

Bringing In: Authenticity and Compassion

At TEMPLE, we are embracing authenticity — not just in our yoga and Pilates practice but in all areas of life. This means embracing where we are right now and being kind to ourselves, without judgement.

When we practice yoga, Pilates, breathwork, or meditation, we’re not trying to be someone else; we’re becoming more of who we already are. The real power lies in showing up as we are, with compassion for ourselves, and committing to the journey — not the destination.

In 2025, we’re embracing a wellness practice that fosters authenticity. It’s not about chasing the next big fitness trend or ideal; it’s about being present, being real, and honouring our own unique journey.

And the result? A consistent, sustainable practice that lasts a life time instead of just summer time.

Final Thoughts

As we move into 2025, we’re embracing a new way of thinking about wellness. We’re letting go of quick fixes, comparisons, and pressures, and we’re bringing in mindful movement, authenticity, self-compassion, and sustainable practices that will nourish us for years to come.

Whether through yoga, Pilates, breathwork, or meditation, these practices help us connect to our bodies, our breath, and our minds in ways that support long-term vitality. At TEMPLE, we’re committed to a wellness journey that is gentle, sustainable, and rooted in love for ourselves and those around us.

Here’s to a year of embracing who we truly are and cultivating a wellness practice that honours our bodies, minds, and spirits — not just for a season, but for a lifetime.

Come and join the Mindful Movement here and let 2025 be your most spacious and joyful year yet.
